What do you feel you have learnt in the progression in the preliminary task to the final product?

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Question 6
Through the process of constructing this product, I have found that in order for my images to be clear on Photoshop my camera setting should have been set to match the correct lighting for that day. Also, to focus each image on the main part of the model: his face

I found using Photoshop difficult, as I had never used it before. However, I did watch YouTube tutorials to help me familiarise myself with the tools on Photoshop, and used a rough copy of each tool to notice the job each one does.

After making the magazine, I knew how to edit a colour of an image if it is not the colour I want. I also knew how to:
  • Make an image have an undertone of another colour
  • Edit the size of a page
  • Focus on a specific part of an image
I learnt, that media institutions such as Photoshop and Youtube converge well, and work well together.

I also learnt, through questionnaires the likes and dislikes of young maturing adults.

During the process of constructing my magazine, I discovered new ways to make my media product more appealing to the public eye. For example, when editing the front cover, I thought that it would be nice for my model to appear black and white, where the background would contrast as it would be in full colour. However, from feedback from my target audience, I was told that the image would look too fake and less appealing as the black and white filter makes it look unnatural.

The editing process:

How did you address/attract your audience?

Who would be the audience for your media product?

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Question 3

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Question 2
My media product, represents particular social groups through costume, setting and layout.

COSTUME:
In my magazine, I allowed my model to dress himself. This shows that he was in a comfortable environment. As my target audience, are 18 year olds to middle aged adults, the clothing was suitable for both the audience and the genre. In the double page spread, my model was dressed in black as the colour contrasts sinfulness, rebelliousness and dramatic characteristics to represent youthfulness and seriousness which I aimed to represent for the older readers. Whereas, on the front cover, he was wearing a denim jacket with a white t-shirt. The white symbolises the innocence and shyness of the artist, which reflects his personality "off-stage". The colour black, is not seen as a norm for a music magazine cover, therefore illustrating that I have broken convention in order for my magazine to be unique and stand out from all other magazines.

SETTING:
On the double page spread of my magazine, originally I captured a staircase at night time (as the background) to represent the late hours youths and young adults are mostly out. It would represent a calm environment that young adults are comfortable in. My double page spread, would have indicated that not every young person should be categorised as incapable of achieving something in particular, but that they can do anything they put their minds to and still be creative and youthful. However, I decided not to stick to my original ideas as I wanted the background to make the audience feel more welcome, hence why I used a picture of the featured artist "performing". The front cover represents particular social groups such as my target audience, as they are all young adults. As the front cover is an image of the artist taking a selfie, it represents the audience as it is a common thing that many young people do.

LAYOUT:
My layout of my magazine represents different social groups as fearless, open and outgoing. The front cover portrays an "open" social group as due to the shyness of the artist on the front cover, despite how he his portraying himself, he sill allows the audience to see him like that. The model, offers a direct mode of address, which allows the audience/readers to feel comfortable and welcome. It also makes them feel as if they are being challenged.
On the front cover of my magazine, the price is shown at £2.95 which is £1.00 less than the average Blues & Soul magazine price. This is because, as my audience is targeted to be 18 and above, they would be able afford this magazine due to incomes from education, work or even benefits even if the magazine was £3.95. However, I feel that the price of a magazine should not be over £3.00.

In what ways does your magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
